Incredible macro photography, although I'm not sure I'd rescue that thing! I've never had much success with macro.
I am a biologist perhaps that`s why I see all those bugs in a nature. You have so good camera, that you will succeed surely if you want to :)

It is a wasp of some kind. It is old and the wings gave up. It has to beat its wings twice as much to stay flying as about half of them are missing due to wear. So it dropped in the water because it could not go on any more. You saved it for another day.
