Nice close-up photograph of a Bald Faced Hornet. Or, that is what we call them. They do have a nasty sting that burns like being stuck with a red-hot poker. I had one sting me up my trouser leg on the inside of my thigh and on the way to the house I was trying desperately to get my pants off to see what it was that was causing so much pain. My wife thought I had lost my mind and was undressing outside.
freefalling, This one was not dangerous,it needed nectar. Abraham I can imagine the situation : ) I have had same kind of experiences. Thank you for visiting my blog. I write this on an island of the lake Pyhäselkä.It's warm and sunny here.
Your dog seems to like soil, a real nature dog :-) Wasps are about the only creatures that I do not like (together with crocodiles and sharks, however it is not likely that I ever meet the latter ones :-)
tut-tut, I think, we say macro, if a photo of something shows it bigger than it is in nature, for instance this wasp`s hair or prongs ( ? ) in it`s feet.
beetle, many thanks :)
Hildegarde, I do not like them very much either, especially in the mouth with jelly - I have got one and it really stuck to my palate. I can say - it was unpleasant, indeed. The nature dog, yes. She did just today one trick on the island, what I can tell only by email:)) but it proves, she is the nature dog!!
kala, as I said earlier, I took several photos and only this was clear enough. But the wasp was slow and easy to take many photos. I make a photo like close up by Picasa . If the photo is clear enough, you can get it to seem like this. Thanks for dropping in!
Spring seems to have come in your country. I love that moment after long winter.
By the way, I am very surprised how long the day time is now!! Is is real that the day time is about 19 hours long?? I cannot imagine that it is still bright at 10:00 pm.
Wow! Just amazing photo!
ReplyDeleteHave a good Sunday as well!
Did you take the photo indoors? That poor wasp must've flown off thinking "No nectar! Where's this world going to? ;)
ReplyDeleteGreat macro Leena. I'm sure there was much confusion by the wasp.
ReplyDeleteexcellent macro photo.
ReplyDeleteSonia,
ReplyDeletethanks, same to you!
fenix,
yes, I was putting those funny sandals on, when I saw the wasp. We took it outside after photographing :)

Whoa - that's close!
